The HP Sprocket is a cute little pocket sized printer that retails for $129.99. It is perfect for quick, instant printing, and prints straight from your phone or tablet! It's a similar concept to a polaroid camera and is the ultimate form of print convenience. It requires ZINK, Zero Ink, HP photo paper to work. The sprocket comes with a pack of 10 sheets, and all additional paper can be purchased in packs of 20 sheets, retailing for $9.99. The paper sheets have a nice sticker backing, and makes for easy scrapbooking or album placement. If you are anything like me, this little gadget will have you giggling in excitement as you're favorite picture perfect moments are printed seconds after taking them!
Here's everything you need to know about this fun little rectangle...
There is only one button on the side that powers the device on and off. The sprocket has a white light that turns on when paired, and blinks when printing the queue. It also has a micro USB port for charging.
To print an image, Sprocket has an easy-to-use photo app that allows you to edit the image you want to print. There you can add filters, captions, stickers, or even frames (and they are so cute!). The app is completely free in the app store, and is very straight forward. It connects with your iPhoto library, Facebook, and Instagram for easy access to your pictures, and allows you to select which ones you would like to print. Image quality is on par to what I expected from an instant printer, but its definitely not professional lab quality. I was impressed to see that it prints lowlight shots pretty well, and they don't turn out too dark.
Given the size of the wallet prints, it's okay to shoot photos in a variation of devices without worrying about the resolution. That being said, it's not stellar quality either.
The sprocket is available in an adorable white and rose gold color, or in a black and silver alternative.
Bottom line, the Sprocket is a convenient photo printer that prints on-the-go.
Here are my pro's and con's for this product:
-Portable / easy to carry
-Works with iPhone or iPad via bluetooth
-Does not use ink
-instant printing (like a polaroid)
-Nice print quality; no lines in print like there would be with an ink jet printer
-Easy to use Sprocket App
-Convenient and aimed at social media printing
-Limited to 2x3 wallet sized photos
-No larger size options
-Can only use HP ZINK paper
All in all, the Sprocket is a fun little gadget and allows your otherwise web-only curated insta feed to come to life in a whole new way! Although there is room for improvement, and I am not too happy about the 2x3 photo size, I really do love this product. It would be perfect for parties, where you have a photo-booth. Your friends can not only take the pictures on their own phones, but also take a picture home for safe keeping! As a professional Photographer I could also see it being used as part of a photo experience package, where the client can take a sneak peak image home with them while they wait for the gallery to be edited.
